By the 19th century, these bottles had become more industrialized. Bacteria just ran rife and unfortunately resulted in horrible numbers of children perishing because the bottles were unsafe. So you can imagine just how awful they became, how hygienic they were. It's about how we think about female bodies and how those bodies have been thought of throughout time.
