The Importance of Understanding Pseudoscience
There's a symmetry between debunking pseudoscience and critiquing cults. We do well to understand why people choose practices and discourses that may not ultimately work. So, pseudoscience debunkers and cult analysts should be careful not to confuse the value of their critiques with the idea they are answering underlying social problems. They're just not in general.
