The Importance of Liberal Ethics
I think because we've had liberal societies for quite a long time, you know, it's been a good sort of 50 years at least since we have been understanding liberalism as a norm. But I think liberalism isn't really a very intuitive system for humans. And so that historically speaking may be significant, but within these critical theories that we have, there's also been a deliberate effort to make that less relevant and in fact, not wholly wrongly to identify it with patriotism and nationalism. It's as though the fact is behind what I would think of those very desirable qualities are actually bad, actually evil somehow in and of themselves.
