Lestrade met Miss Turner at the hotel where he was staying. She had heard of him and wanted to speak with him about James's case. He told her that there was nothing she could do which he hadn't already done. Then, as if by magic, a carriage arrived carrying Miss Turner. Lestrade said: 'I have a caseful of cigarettes here which needs smoking' The young woman burst into tears in his room after hearing this news. "Do ye not see some loophole, some flaw? Do ye not yourself think that he is innocent?" Asked Lestrade; "He gives me hopes."
