The Mystical Resonance of the Crusader States
The crusader states and the region that they're from did have a mystical resonance is almost a is a pretty good phrase. For the vast majority of crusaders and indeed later settlers, they had virtually no idea what was in the Near East. This is an era of history where there are no good maps, virtually no one had been there. So it's almost a land of fantasy from the perception of people in Western Christendom at this time.
