'Idisel'

Bela bartok recorded caval music in idisel on the eve of first world war. Nick thorpe decided to retrace one of those journeys before lunch. In hoddak, half a day's ride for bartok, we visit several musicians who make modern day caval flutes. Ferry buys the flutes from local craftman, polishes them and sells them near by. What is the difference between folk music and classical music? I asked yon kovrig. He explained that classical music lives from its variations on a melody. We reluctantly leave reluctantly into a less free rule ridden, more classical world.
