Climate Change and the Syrian Refugee Crisis
With the exception of people whose islands are disappearing, we will generally not attribute it to climate, right? So the syrian civil war is a really interesting example. People think of syrian refugees as induced by the the arab spring thoh basharasad being a brutal dictator. We very instinctively talk about it a more in terms of the proximate causes than in terms of these long term drivers. And i guess my response to that is, it doesn't really matter at this particular moment in time, because refugee law does not currently accommodate probably any of these people except for the people from the marshall islands.
