Haitian historians of the late 1800s and early 1900s provided much of the information about the Haitian Revolution. The book is based on interviews with survivors from that era, as well as anthropological research into spirituality and religion. "The Waka'im'o ceremony is almost like a founding myth for the Haitian people," says author David Perry.
