The deal prevents cuts to Social Security and Medicare, as well as military and veterans programs that also cause back funding from the IRS. It loosens some environmental rules and temporarily adds work requirements for some social safety net programs, including food stamps. The compromise has upset some progressive Democrats and hardline conservatives putting a potential Wednesday vote in question. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected to head to trial in the coming weeks.
