Greeks and romans not only gave birth to western civilization, they bequeathed to us their categories of thought and models of action. They bestowed a vocabulary for the inquisitive and just mind. The power of words suits him for a life lived sub specie eternitatis. For all time. One finds isocrates said that among our public men who are living to day, those who give most study to the art of words are the best statesmen on the rostrum.
