The Meat Packing Industry Is Getting More Concentrated
Just four companies process more than 80 % of america's beef. The big four packers have been able, first to increase, then to maintain their level of profitability in less concentrated food industries. A single large sized meat packing plant can cost 200 million dollars and takes several months to approve and build. So 500 million will not buy much additional capacity.
