You trained as a nurse in the 1950s, and then declined a scholarship to become a doctor. Instead you became the very first trained midwife. And you had to take unpaid work. How hard was it being the first as a woman? Would it explain to us what that experience was like? Challenging. It was challenging because we only had one doctor as well.
