Introduction
Hester baron and claire langhammer used an archive of school girls essays on everything from their favorite film stars to their ideas about heaven and hell. The essays themselves were collected by a group of mass observers who were working in bolton, the northwest of england from 19 37 throughtil 19 forty. It is so rare to find children's voices written when children were children that it just really caught our imagination," says hester Baron.
