The History of Photography
Photography was popular with large numbers of people who could afford it. It's a very long, cumbersome process with some very unpleasant side effects. Not many pioneer photographers lived to draw their pensions. Some of the photographs are actually used as the basis for illustrations in publications like Illustrated London News. The technology is moving on but it's going to be the first world war before you start to get really dramatic images on the battlefield.
