The Effects of Alcohol on the Gut Microbiome
A normal body can metabolize and ultimately eliminate a drink an hour. If you drink faster than that, if you exceed the rate at which these enzymes can do their thing, ethanol and ethanol metabolites will build up in your bloodstream. The buzz won't grow into full-on sloppy drunkenness if you keep it to one drink an hour or thereabouts. Anybody can drink themselves to death if they really try.
