How Did the Collections of the British Museum Come to Be?
During the Second World War, british museums were forced to move their collections out of london and into more secure locations. The collection was stored in a variety of places including caves, quarries and even stately homes. But some items such as the crown jewels had to be kept underground so that they would not be damaged by bombing from above.
