In mid 15 38, at the suggestion of a minor retired official, the emperor revived a long disused ritual which allowed the emperor's father to officiate in a sacrifice to shangdi. The hidden catch here was that only the first two man emperors, hong o and then yong le, had ever officiated such an event.
