How to Wash Your Undergarments
People tended to change their underclothes more often than their outer clothes. It was the linen underwear that gets washed rather than the outer clothes. All but the poorest of the poor would have a couple of changes of nether clouds, yor undergarments. The idea was linen soaks up the sweat.
