The Search for the Missing of the First World War
Dansno conducted five million interviews with soldiers about their missing comrades. As a result of this, wrote 400 thousand letters to families who had inquired about the whereabouts. The extraordinary thing these letters is that they provided personal detail on the last moments of the dead soldier. Even if the news was bad, the families believed that at least somebody cared.
