The Immortality of the Eternal Beings
The crux of the conflict rests in, you described how humanity is being sort of grown in order to feel the birthing of a god that will then create further things. The eternal purpose is to protect humanity as it grows towards this eventual of cataclysmic destruction that is theBirthing of the new god. But the eternals are basically unaware of that process. They believe that they are there for more immediately humanistic reasons,. like protecting intelligent life from deviants. Until they discover that it's this actually broader goal of protecting humanity so that it can eventually besort of consumed for the birting of a god.
