Illich's Image of the Problem
Illich says we introduce tools for good reasons to deal with problems but then somehow the tools become problems in themselves. The two watersheds that he discusses at the outset of tools for conviviality, he takes medicine as his case study for this early example. He's going to go on later in a few years to write a book that was first called Medical Nemesis and today is usually published as limits to medicine. But in this book he gives a little sketch of that and tools he gives a sketch of that process.
