First humans who came in to alaska had adapted a basically arctic coastal life style based on foods like seals or shellfish that they got from cold ocean coast. So it was a very slow kind of trickle down process of small groups of people gradually finding new habitats, new food sources and adapting to themt. Each wave penetrated less deeply into the continent because there was more competition.
