The Role of the Catholic Church in Spanish Society

There were many different paths that could have been taken to try and solve these problems. The new constitution allowed for the government to expropriate land if it was done in the national interest. Articles 26 and 27 dealt with the position of religion within Spanish society. For example, religious orders could be banned and state subsidies provided to the Catholic Church would be removed. A history of the Catholic Church in Spain is beyond the scope of this podcast.
