The Byzantine Empire Was Not Inexpensive to the Classical Greeks
The byzantine empire did succeed in that one thing that classical civilization has signally failed to do. The problem is that we think of it as inferior. I am not sure, during the thousand years of the busans empire, which is a greek speaking christian empire with its capital at constantinople, are not sure that they actually did think of themselves as inferior to the the classical greeks. They certainly are to day.
