Resistance is like electrons going through, but sort of bumping too much into the atoms. You want to use things that have low resistance so that most of the energy you're sending along a wire gets there. If you use something with really bad resistance, with a lot of resistance, then it'll heat up the wire. That energy from the electrons will create resistance, which turns into heat.
