The sherman anti trust act is one of the first anti monopoly laws. Congress was realizing that patents were a big part of how technical firms maintained their monopolies. A lot of times the big companies would invent a method for doing something and stick it in a drawer, basically just so no one else could have it. And there was this moment where there was hope for reform,. But then world war too comes along, and everyone, you know, those hopes get dashed.
