After the peasant's revolt, richard managed to create a sense of self importance. He believed that he was divinely appointed and could do no wrong. So when john of gaunt was dealing with that kind of character, he had to tread very, very carefully. And there was a series occasions where he very publicly fell out with richard am. There was also an occasion where rumour had been spread that richard was trying to have his uncle asassinated and vice versa. But that was largely down to the circle of contemporaries that richard held close round him - people like robert de vere a who disliked John Gaunt.
