The Importance of Memory
The way that people speak about memory has evolved over time, but generally reflects the best technology of the time. We think that our memory works like a computer memory, but we just write a file somewhere and it then stays there as long as we can work out the path to that file,. That's just manifest the untrue. In terms of our own mental model of memory, we tend to talk about memorization as opposed to imagination. You have that famous Einstein quote of imagination is more important than knowledge. But that again is a misunderstanding of memory. Your memory is a composite of memories you've had before. So your imagination there is a Composite of memories that have previously been formed.
