Matt Mervis made his major league debut for the Chicago Cubs. He faced a guy tough on lefties in Miguel Cabrera. Matt was fine defensively but there were some low throws that he had to find a way to pick up. The insurance run gave Mark Leiter Jr. a little bit of breathing room.
The Cubs are back on track after the rough roadtrip thanks to a masterful performance from Justin Steele. Steele went 7 innings and struck out four, only allowing 1 earned run. The Cubs offense got going early after an RBI from Seiya Suzuki, and the Cubs got a 3-1 win vs the Marlins. Matt Mervis added his first MLB hit and RBI in the 8th inning.
