On August 8th, 2007, Space Shuttle Endeavour launched from the Kennedy Space Center on board was Kristin McAuliffe's backup, Barbara Morgan. NASA spent two and a half years developing new safety systems before space shuttle launches finally resumed. Researchers eventually found the cause of the Challenger disaster: A seal on a rocket booster had failed in the freezing temperatures,. causing a fuel tank to ignite.
