The Sources of Witchcraft Trials
About 20% of the trials have survived. That makes about 400 fully recorded cases, millions of words in pretty awful handwriting. So weve got a very rich sorce base. And also, it does overlap in the sense that one can often have quite a group of trials, not necessarily at the same time. You can see the same people reappearing in cases, andcan get some sense of village dynamics and so on. But also, you do et a very varied picture. People talk about a lot of things, although they all relate in some way to witchcraft. It took me decades to do that.
