Jones' Relationship With the Civil Rights Movement
Jones' father had ties to the Ku Klux Klan, but Jones grew up on the other side of the spectrum. He and Marceline regularly attended American Communist Party meetings in Indianapolis. After a string of incidents with Nazi and black families, Jones went door to door in white neighborhoods asking them not to move out of town but to stay and fight for a good cause.
