The Early Christian Theology - Is There a God in Images?

Lactantius says cultic images are presided over by demons. Arnobius early fourth century, he's writing of treatise where it looks like maybe the Christians were blamed for things for not worshiping images. Can anyone seriously imagine Lactantius speaking like this, if the theology of Nicaea too had been alive in his day? And that's the linchpin of Nikonophile theology.
