I visited cofton court in warwickshire this summer for a history hit t v programme. It's coming out soon. N shakespeare's country. You get a lens there. It's a lens wich to see this period. The recusants played, some of them novice, did more than pray. And they took notice of a very interesting moment just before elizabeth the first's funeral,. A gunpowder mill on the thames exploded and dozens of people were killed. That would not go unnoticed by some these men. They'd been horribly disappointed by james the first. When he got to the throne, he proved to be pretty anti catholic as well.
