The Effect of Violence on Northern Ireland

My uncle was shot and killed on Bloody Sunday along with 13 other men and boys who were out marching for civil rights. And not just the people who were injured and killed on the day, but it left an endowment mark on Derry. Even if you didn't grow up in a political family, you were highly aware of the effect of violence even at my age. I wasn't even the only child in my primary school class who was a bloody Sunday family. One in every 10 people in Northern Ireland knew someone who had been injured or killed in the violence.
