Chingus Khan was named the ruler of all who lived in felt walls. He had made certain promises to his followers, that in return for their unquestioning loyalty they would receive riches, wealth, women, and power. The figure known as Koch-choo or Tabtangri has served as Tamajin's shaman since at the time of his first corral tie in 1189. Shamans occupied a very strange position within Mongol society. As with many practitioners of the magical and occult arts across the world, they occupied a liminal space between the sacred and profane.
