The Tumu Incident of 1449
Oirat Mongol leader Essen Khan was incredulous that such a prize fell into his hands. The Mongols marched on Beijing, but they were unable to take the city. With Wang-Jun out of the picture, the eunuch faction at the palace was hardly the menace they once were. A year later, with a new emperor on the throne, the old emperor got handed back to the Ming in China.
