One of the earliest interactive pieces of interactive fiction made by Will Crowther in 1975. Don Woods at Sale at Stanford added a bunch of gameplay elements to it. And then it's spread like wildfire around all the time sharing computers in the mid-70s. A lot of these conventions are taken up in Zork and other adventure games that follow.
