How to Tell Enslaved Women's Stories
The only stories we know of enslaved women in the american south are, for the most part, stories of women who escaped. And many, many enslaved women could not escape because they had children. So i was able to pare her story up with other enslaved women who were forced to have the children of slave traders and sort of picture what her life might have looked like by the details i knew about what their lives looked like. I think these are the kind of links that we have to go to try to understand the lives of enslaved women,. Their stories really haven't been told.
