The Tax Advantages of ETFs in Canada
Canadian citizens can indirectly take advantage of the US tax law if they own USETFs. The key mechanism that allows ETFs to not distribute capital gains in the States, at least, is the custom creation redemption process. That's why Vanguard, iShares and everyone who runs an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) business rarely distributed capital gains in US exchange funds.
