What Is the Importance of Repoliticizing Money?

When there was a gold standard say in the late 19th century the politics of money were heavily and publicly politicized by the populist movement. To what degree do we need is it important for the left to re politicize money something that you know in various ways obviously MMT advocates trying to do that all the time other leftists where does that all fit in? We should really hope for and try to build a moment where again we have a mass kind of collective democratic discourse about monetary policy instead of leaving it to the so-called experts.
