The Pros and Cons of Retrograde Intermetlary Nailing
retrograde intermetlary nail is technically easier. It allows for addressing other injuries surgically without changing the patient position. The safest pin location sites are antrlateral and direct lateral regions of the fumur. With sub muscular plating, there is less soft tissue stripping than with the direct lateral approach. And comminuted fractures will require a bridge plate. In an ipsilateral femoral neck fracture, the priority goes to fixing the fermiral neck because anatomic reduction is necessary.
