Nelson's body was placed in a cask of brandy and mixed with mur to preserve it. Much as the men loved their commander, wouldn't ae stopped having a few drinks if they could have done. His death touched nearly everyone in that fleet. Gnarled, grisly seamen breaking down in chears when they heard of his death. Many of the ships were utterly ruinous. Masts smashed over the side of ships. They were basy, floating hulks. And there was an insane storm that blew up on the evening following trafalgar,. It was some of the highest wind speeds ever recorded at that point of history by a nearby weather station
