Introduction

Salem was a community riven with fault lines that threatened to open up into great chasms of conflict. Terror and paranoia were generated by attacks from native america ans, neighboring french catholics and an unforgiving environment. The root of witch hunting ultimately is into personal antagonism. Its neighbours falling out with each other, its people not fitting into communities because they scare the community. Salem village was indeed one of these small communities in which people knew each other incredibly well.
