Khrushchev and Castro's Declaration of Alignment With Communism in the Soviet Union

When Castro and his men came out of the mountains, Sierra Madreas as I think they were called and took over Cuba, the Soviets thought they were just peasant revolutionaries, nationalists. And so when Castro declared after a while that he was and had been a communist, the Soviets quickly, Khrushchev quickly bought that story. He became even more enthusiastic about the Cubans and more determined now to protect them both economically and militarily.
