The Donald Thompson Collection

Donald thompson was a really interesting kind of figure in the history of australian anthropology. He travelled on expeditions for about forty years until the sixties, collected an enormous number of oti facts because of his natural history background. And this material went into his collection, essentially, as did material from all his other expeditions that he went on over those four decades or so. But he had this deep mistrust of institutions, partly because of his material being lost in a fire early in his career and partly because he didn't like people telling him what to do.
