The Merry Rose Sunk on Her Starboard Side - Is There a Gap in the Side of the Hudder?
Archaeological investigation hasn't shown us any evidence of a gaping hole in the side of the merry roses hull. But there's a good chance that the merry rose may have been hit sometime many hours before she actually sank. Even one sort of four or five inch hole could have caused enough water to flow into the hull to destabilize the ship. And as it sank on its starboard side, which is the side we still have, it would seem likely that the fatal shock would be here.
