Introduction
The Black Death was a terrible plague pandemic that struck Europe and its neighbours in the 1340s, the middle of the 14th century. Oxford University professor James Bellich lays out his case in his recent book The World the Plague Made. Essentially it was a terrible pathogen that was transferred mainly by the fleas on black rats,. which proliferated rapidly and infected humans.
