The Role of the Gut in Immune Responses
The immune system constantly assess, interpret, and regulate the microbiota. Bugs that are safe to have on our skin aren't safe to have in our gut. Polysaccharide A, or PSA, is a sugar found in the cell wall of many bacteria. It has been shown to dry the differentiation of T cells called regulatory T cells. These regulatory cells create an overall suppressive environment by their secretion of IL-10.
