Introduction

Stuart Sutherland is a Hume scholar and provost of Gresham College. He says the great 18th century philosopher was agnostic but had strong anti-clerical views. His best known work on religion, dialogues concerning natural religion, was published only posthumously. The argument from design claims that within the empirical world you can see traces of intelligent design. It therefore indicates that the empirical world in which we live had a designer.
